Marcus was privileged to be selected to represent his province, Gauteng, in the pro-mini class in the recent North South challenge. On the back of his European campaign, he was eager to show SA what he had learnt and that is exactly what he did. He qualified 3 seconds a lap faster than the rest of the class and was able to take that through to heat 1. He rode fast and smooth and lead from start to finish. He pretty much did the same in heat 2. Riding a wave of confidence, Marcus started heat 3 in the same fashion. Perhaps a little too complacent, Marcus allowed Justin Thompson to close the gap. He tried to put the hammer down and open the gap again, but made a mistake and put it down. He remounted in 6th and was able to fight back to 3rd.
He is disappointed he didn’t win all 3 heats, but the overall was good enough and Marcus really helped Gauteng on it’s way to winning the interprovincial.
The event was a great success and Marcus will look to reclaim his crown in 2014.
Marcus proudly represents his team Gauteng.
Top step of the podium where he feels comfortable!
