The final leg of Marcus’s 3 race trip to Europe was the BIG one. The MX Master kids in France. Believed to be the biggest junior race in Europe, this was where he had to shine, and SHINE he did!
With enough entries to warrant 3 heats for qualification, Marcus was put into heat 3, with some big names and straight away the pressure was on. Marcus had worked hard for this moment and it paid off with a great start and a win. This meant he had a great gate pick for heat 1. Marcus pulled off his familiar holeshot in heat 1 and never looked back. Europe suddenly stood up and looked at this SA kid, who had just won a Master kids heat. With confidence high, heat 2 came along. Another great start in 6th and managed to work his way to 2nd in lap 1. A small mistake saw the front end wash out and him drop it and fall back to 6th. He took off his goggles, which was a bad mistake, and could only make it back to 4th.
For one of the biggest events in Europe, a top 5 is exactly what the doctor ordered, but does have a slight bitter taste when he knew he could have won. He will be back to win in 2014.
